About Me
I opened King Street Kitchen & Gift in 2016. I’d wanted my own shop for about 3 years before taking the plunge, when finally a suitable premises came available on one of Richmond busiest streets. Not too big, not too small – practically perfect in everyway I thought. Previously a card shop, I’d sell cards and … and things.
But what kind of things? Over the past 18 years I’ve been at home with the kids or working part-time for my mother-in-law. However, working for my mother-in-law also meant working in a busy gift shop, buying and choosing beautiful items. Also having completed my kitchen extension in 2011 – kitcheny things were the things that interested me most. I wanted unusual talking points in my kitchen, quirky items, unique things that you don’t see on the regular high street.
I love vintage, retro, colour and set about searching out independent suppliers to sit along side recognisable brands such as Mason Cash, Emma Bridgewater and Orla Kiely. As a nation, we live in our kitchens now - the kitchen is the heart of the home. A place to cook, to eat, to relax, to watch TV, to run a business from. I stock everything from wooden spoons to organic braided rugs, from candles and diffusers to enormous, recycled glass lamps. Polar bear flower vases and everything in between.
Everything in my shop is a treasure that I love and would personally have in my own kitchen (if space permitted). I like nothing better than reading the Sunday papers, looking at new trends in magazines, spending hours on Pinterest, googling and sourcing new and relevant products. And of course shopping - buying small and buying often means a steady stream of new products arriving weekly.
I hope you enjoy browsing my website and if you’re ever in the beautiful Georgian town of Richmond, North Yorkshire, you’re more than welcome to call in and have a look for yourself.
